A Guide for the Latham Appliance for Parents of Infants with Cleft Lip and Palate

Pre-surgical preparation for insertion of the Latham device in infants with complete cleft lip and palate is a very stressful period of time for parents. Not only is it the first experience for the baby and parents in the operating room, but the ensuing 5-8 weeks of adaptation to the appliance, feeding difficulties, and structural changes around the mouth and nose, will be very challenging.  Clearly seeing our goals, but recognizing the impact on parents, this video has sought to help with explanation, demonstration, and hands-on, always-available support.  After almost 30 years’ experience with Latham-type devices, we are now able to offer parents and expectant parents a detailed, informative presentation in this video.

diagnostic features are carefully described and demonstrated on models, and options in
treatment are then geared to specific findings in infants and young children.
